If i personally took the time to try and remove every film, song, or tv show that had a slur I didn't agree with then I'd have Carpel Tunnel from typing so many emails. I don't because I can separate art and hate speech. But even saying THAT is a subjective double-edged sword because there are people that would argue that anything Bill O'Reilly says or 1915's Birth of a Nation is "art", right? Those people exist and it's you know something, THATS FINE. I'm ok with listening to someone that doesn't have the same opinions as me because I have the right to argue with that person which is the beauty of our country.
I refuse to tell you what should and shouldnt offend you. It wouldnt be fair. So, I'll just speak from my personal happenings. One could argue that Hateful Eight dropped one too many "Nigger" bombs during the flick. Part of me definitely felt that way, but THE MOVIE WAS AMAZING and by the middle of the movie I just started laughing because the excessiveness was hilarious. Tarantino was inspired by those over-the-top grindhouse blaxploitaion. So, of course his film are gonna use that language. Period.
Eminem says "Faggot" most songs and sometimes I get a little nervous that somebody may see Em's liberal use of the word as a right of passage to call my lesbian Mom and Step-mom that. It doesn't bother my Mom so it doesn't bother me. She loves Eminem and bought me the 8Mile soundtrack when it first came out.
I believe people are only hearing words and aren't hearing the intent and justification. I love that people are finally speaking up for what they believe is right. I love that we all have a platform to speak our greviances. My only problem is, is EVERYTHING offensive now?
I guess I'm mostly a little frustrated because I'm afraid all my favorite comedy specials are gonna be taken off airplanes now and I'm gonna be stuck watching corny Romantic movies during long flights.
Love, Peace, and Nappiness. ❤️✌🏾️✊🏾
